Is World of Warcraft worth it's money? If so, which one should I ...

I’ve done a bit of research on World of Warcraft as I’ve played Age of Empires I and II for far too long and need a bit of variety. However, I’m wondering if WOW is at all worth it’s weight if you know what I mean. In addition, which version should I start out with? From what I read, there are three parts to WOW plus a few extensions to each. Thanks a ton in advance!

It’s a poorly balanced MMORPG that only focuses on endgame raiding. It’s really not worth the time or money. However the nonsense about addiction to it is nothing more than media scaremongering to force up their ratings by scaring people with limited knowledge about gaming. It’s just like how they used to claim violent TV shows made people violent.

Anyway to start off you’ll at least need the base game which is simply World of WarCraft. There are two expansions for it which are, in order of release (and the order in which you should purchase them), World of WarCraft: The Burning Crusade which raises the maximum character level from level 60 to level 70 and makes the Dranei and Blood Elf races playable, and World of WarCraft: Wrath of the Lich King which raises the maximum character level to 80 and adds the Death Knight class. A third expansion has been announced and is in development.

Personally though if you’re interested in an MMORPG I’d advise you to take a look at some of Turbine’s MMORPGs. The free to play Dungeons and Dragons Online and the soon-to-be free to play Lord of the Rings Online are both much better games with much more mature communities, as well as having much better graphics.

world of warcraft is certainly worth the money.

for $15 you get a months worth of entertainment. thats less than the cost of ONE movie now a days.

you need to start with the original WoW. from there you go to Burning Crusade, and then Wrath of the Lich King. WoW is the base game, Burning Crusade and Lich King are expansion packs. Burning Crusade will not work without original WoW, Lich King will not work without original WoW AND Burning Crusade

you dont really need lich king right away, so if you get yourself a copy of the battle chest that has both WoW and Burning Crusade in it, that will get you everything you need to get started

ignore the idiots who say “blah blah blah you will get addicted”. the only way you will get addicted is if you let yourself.
